In the market for another camera we have pre-ordered the new Nikon D800 DSLR to add to our arsenal of photo-video equipment. The D800 will double as a still camera and video camera- our first cross-platform purchase. With an amazing 36.3 MP CMOS sensor it should deliver unprecedented detail for still shots. And for video, the 1080p video will be surprising crisp and can even be shot at 60 frames per second for amazing slow-motion footage (our Panasonic HVX 200 has this capability as well).
The one main advantage we see with this DSLR is the shallow depth-of-field that will be achievable with the wide selection of Nikon lenses and the large sensor. This has always been a problem with fixed mount lenses on camcorder i.e. depth-of-field tends to be very long. We look forward to the results!
