You can help pay for your next vacation by taking along your camcorder, tripod and microphone. Shooting video for stock footage websites is a great way to not only record your vacation memories but make a few bucks in the process. There are dozens of stock video footage sites including two of my favourites- www.pond5.com and www.revostock.com
Each stock video site is different. Their payment schedule varies and depends upon if you offer your footage with an exclusive contract or not. For instance, Revostock will give you a higher percentage of your clip selling price if you exclusively offer the clip only to Revostock. Your video format also dictates the price you might fetch for your clips. Video that’s 1080p seems to be the most popular and also fetches the highest price. Some sites such as Revostock offers your video clip in different formats under a price scheme you set. For instance, if you shot a video clip in 1080p, Revostock will convert it to other frame sizes to suit the needs of video editors- and price range.
To submit clips you need to undergo a jury process to determine you are a pro-shooter. Your clips need to be taken with a pro-quality camera. Check each site for clip specifications. Encoding varies from site to site too but clear instructions and workflows are available to make your editing and uploading process as painless as possible.
You are usually paid once a month with payment deposited into your PayPal account. I have been selling stock footage for over 6 years now with my goal of having over 1000 approved clips online. It provides income that helps me afford that next vacation!
